On
a rare sunny day, September 21, 2009, I decided to take some photos of
Union Station in Little Rock, Arkansas, a very active office complex.
As you will see, the main parking lot is full of cars every day with
workers for companies that rent office space in the nearly 100
year old station. These views are of the south side of the building,
which is the main entrance. The Amtrak office is located on the north
(track) side on the lower level, as is the US Census Bureau. This lower
level is where I take my train photos. Union Station is located at
Victory and Markham Streets.
View from Victory Street.
Looking east from the parking lot toward downtown Little Rock.
Here are some views of the station trackside, on the lower level. This is where the Amtrak station is located:
The
Amtrak station is under the two flags. It has 'LITTLE ROCK' in gold
lettering above the doors. It's open nightly 10:30 pm to 8 a.m. and all
day on Mondays. Below are a few more photos of the Amtrak station.
Taken from the platform gate looking at the waiting room.
LEFT-Amtrak
Agent Richard Finch was on duty. The station is open in the daytime on
Mondays only. RIGHT-GMTX 2156 heading a local as seen from the Amtrak
waiting room.
Of
course, there were no passengers waiting here since the Texas Eagle
comes through in the middle of the night. However, people do come
in on Mondays for tickets and information.
LEFT-Amtrak's Texas Eagle stops here nightly at 3:10 a.m. (to Dallas, San Antonio, Los Angeles) and 11:34 p.m (to St Louis and Chicago).
In recent months, Union Pacific has been running the Texas Eagle
on time or early through here. RIGHT- You can see the state capitol of
Arkansas center. I took this photo, on Monday, September 28, 2009,
the first day of the Arkansas Lottery. Up to now there wasn't any
lottery here, just in all the surrounding states. All the money is
supposed to go for scholarships and I believe it raised about $400,000
the first day.
